The Head of Fintechs will play a pivotal role in:
- Partnerships: Building strategic alliances with fintechs to address their unique challenges and foster growth.
- Innovation: Developing tailored financial products and services in collaboration with fintechs.
- Investment: Actively supporting and scaling innovative fintech initiatives.
The Role:
The Head of Fintechs will be the driving force behind Ecobank’s fintech vision, focusing on:
- Comprehensive Partnership: Providing fintechs with access to financial services, education, resources, networks, and industry recognition.
- Customer-Centric Approach: Building and nurturing strong relationships with key fintech clients, driving financial performance and expanding the bank’s reach within the fintech segment.
- Tailored Programs: Creating and executing programs designed to make banking more accessible and user-friendly for the fintech industry, with a focus on digital adoption and value-added services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Execution: Lead the implementation and refinement of the Fintech strategy, adapting to the evolving fintech landscape.
- Cultural Transformation: Foster a culture of innovation and design thinking within the bank, collaborating with internal stakeholders at all levels.
- Performance-Driven Growth: Leverage customer segmentation to drive revenue growth and sustainability, initiating targeted business development activities.
- Collaboration: Build strong internal partnerships across the bank to support the achievement of fintech goals.
- Reporting: Ensure timely and insightful management reporting on fintech initiatives and performance.
Client-Centric Leadership
- Fintech Advocacy: Serve as the primary point of contact for African fintechs, facilitating their growth and expansion through strategic partnerships and tailored solutions.
- Strategic Partnerships: Spearhead collaborations that drive customer acquisition, increase product usage and transaction volumes, and boost deposit mobilization.
- Innovation Catalyst: Identify and leverage emerging fintech trends and technologies to enhance banking operations, improve customer experiences, and drive business growth.
- Collaborative Innovation: Lead co-creation initiatives with leading fintech partners to develop priority solutions that align with the bank’s strategic objectives.
- Streamlined Partnerships: Establish and maintain a robust framework for onboarding fintech partners, ensuring clear service level agreements (SLAs) and efficient collaboration processes.
- Value-Added Services: Deliver non-financial services such as financial literacy programs, networking opportunities, and mentorship to empower fintech partners and foster long-term relationships.
- Digital Adoption: Drive the adoption of digital platforms and tools to optimize fintech onboarding, engagement, and utilization, ensuring a seamless customer experience.
- Competitive Advantage: Champion a customer-centric culture that prioritizes exceptional customer experiences, leveraging both technology and talent to deliver competitive solutions.
- Customer Satisfaction: Continuously monitor and improve customer satisfaction through feedback mechanisms such as surveys, ensuring that fintech partners’ needs are met and exceeded.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Talent Pipeline: Partner with Ecobank Academy to design and implement targeted training programs for fintech professionals, nurturing future leaders and innovators.
- Inspirational Leadership: Motivate, guide, and empower team members, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
- Performance Management: Establish clear performance expectations, provide regular feedback, and support team members’ professional development.
Process, Control & Operational Excellence
- Marketing & Outreach: Oversee the implementation of effective marketing strategies to promote the Fintech Desk’s services and attract potential partners.
- Project Management: Ensure the successful execution of fintech projects, adhering to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
- Risk Management: Implement and maintain robust internal controls to mitigate operational risks and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Strategic Initiatives & Growth
- Partnership Ecosystem: Build and manage strategic partnerships with fintech companies, startups, and relevant stakeholders to drive innovation and collaboration within the fintech ecosystem.
- Thought Leadership: Position the Fintech Desk as a leading authority on fintech trends and solutions, championing its programs and initiatives.
- Business Development: Lead strategic initiatives that drive business growth for the Fintech Desk, contributing to the bank’s overall success.
- Industry Engagement: Organize and participate in events such as the annual Fintech Day Ceremony, showcasing the bank’s commitment to the fintech community and contributing to Ecobank Group’s Fintech Awards Program.
Job Scale:
Reporting to: Director, Payments, Cash Management & Client Access
The Ideal Candidate:
- Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business Administration, Information Technology, or a related field with a strong emphasis on Artificial Intelligence, Big Data, or similar emerging technologies.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in banking, fintech, or a relevant industry, with a proven track record in sales or business development being a significant advantage.
- Leadership: Demonstrated success in leading teams and driving business growth, along with a strong understanding of credit processes and risk management.
- Financial Acumen: Ability to structure complex financial transactions and a solid grasp of capacity development principles.

- Strategic Vision: A deep understanding of the corporate and commercial banking landscape, with a keen awareness of partnership models and their potential impact.
- Results-Oriented: A self-starter with the ability to set clear goals, execute strategies effectively, and take ownership of outcomes.
